Show idle status in Google Talk while working on your computer

Google Talk shows an Idle status when when there is no activity on your computer for sometime. It is an orange colour dot with an status idle automatically shown along with it generally suggesting that the user is away from the system. After my last Gtalk post some of my blog readers asked me is there any way to show an idle status in Google Talk even while working on the computer. Here is how ..


Sometimes it gets really profitable to show idle status like when you are really busy and don't want anyone to contact you and waste your time by chating on an unimportant thing. If anything important comes they just leave you a message thinking that you will return soon. But you can contact anyone of them whenever you need to do so.

How to show idle status in Google Talk even while working on the computer ?

There are two ways to show idle status in Google Talk even while working on the computer.

Method - 1 :

1) Download gAlways Idle which is not available on their home page right now. You can alternatively download it from ESnips (unknown user) or mediafire.

2) After downloading; extract the folder and double click the .exe file to install it.

3) After installation is complete, sign in to Google talk IM.

4) Right click the Gtalk icon in the system tray and select 'always idle' option as shown in the screenshot below :


Now your status will be shown as idle with an orange dot as of mine shown below :



Method - 2 :

1) You need to download Pidgin instant messanger

2) After downloading the set up; install pidgin on your computer.

3) After installing go to 'Accounts -> Manage Accounts' and click 'Add' button as shown in the screenshot below :



4) Now choose Google talk from the list of Instant Messangers available as shown in the screenshot below :


5) Enter your Google username and password and click save.

6) Now select 'Away' as your Gtalk status from the dropdown menu as shown in the screenshot below :


Now your status will be shown as idle with an orange dot on your friends' Gtalk IMs.
